Collingwood and Adelaide will play for the second annual Westpac Community Cup on Sunday, which will this year pay tribute to Life Saving Victoria and the 26,000 lifesavers who patrol the state’s beaches throughout the summer.

Each year the Westpac Community Cup highlights the work volunteer organisations do for the community and this year Life Saving Victoria (LSV) has been selected as the beneficiary.

Vice Captain Scott Pendlebury said that he has always had an appreciation for the work lifeguards undertake.

“ I was fortunate enough to spend a lot of time at the beach as a kid and always admired the surf lifesavers who patrolled the beaches.

“It’s great to see that through the Westpac Community Cup this week, we’re able to support the guys and girls who volunteer so much of their time and do such a fantastic job.”

Collingwood players will wear the LSV logo on their guernseys, with all gurneseys to be auctioned off after game on collingwoodfc.com.au.  Proceeds will go towards life saving clubs across Victoria.

As part of the pre-match activity on Sunday, lifeguards will form a guard of honour for the Collingwood players as they run through the banner.

Collingwood’s premier partner Westpac has supported surf life saving in Australia and the Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter Service for more than three decades.

It began in Sydney in 1973 with the sponsorship of the nation's first civilian rescue helicopter service and now extends nationally to save lives across the country.

Since 1 July 2010:

- 28 people have lost their lives in Victoria due to drowning
- 666 lives have been saved by lifesavers
- 1725 beachgoers have received first aid care from lifesavers
