Quick tempo was vital to win: Davis
Collingwood forward Leon Davis believes the quick tempo set by his team early on Sunday night was the key to the Magpie win
Returning to the side after missing last week with a calf complaint, Leon Davis was a key to Collingwood’s success in the first three quarters booting three majors for the second time in season 2010.
The 28-year-old looked intent on having an impact up forward in what was a critical match for his club.??
“We had a bit of a down week last week so to come out tonight and get a good start and keep the tempo up was really important”, Davis told CTV in the rooms after the win.??
“I was able to kick three and set up a few more which was really important for me.”??
Davis looked to have benefited from a week off using the time to ready his body for the second half of the season.??
“I felt fine for most of the match. It was a bit quick there at times and I struggled a bit but it was good to be back in.
“I worked hard over my off week and I could tell I benefited from that. It’s a long season so a week off can really help.”??

At the opening bounce it was a vastly different Magpie forward line than the one that traveled to Brisbane last week. All four inclusions including Josh Fraser, Paul Medhurst, Leigh Brown and Davis took their place inside the forward 50 arc before the start of play.??
“The forward line was a bit different from last week and I think that’s a strength of ours. We have a lot of depth where we can do that week in and week out. We have the luxury of changing it up depending on what the coaches want.??
“Hopefully we can build on the rhythm we found up forward tonight for next week’s match and continue it across the year.”
