Risks paid off, says Toovey
Collingwood defender Alan Toovey credited the win to a change in second half game plan resulting in a memorable win
Collingwood has booked a place in next week’s Preliminary Final against Geelong after forward John Anthony kicked a goal to put his side ahead in the dying seconds of the match.
The Magpies overcame a 32-point deficit in the second half to come away with a five-point classic finals win; 12.11 (83) to 11.12 (78).
Troubled by Adelaide's zone structure in the first half, Collingwood came out in attacking style, kicking six goals straight in the third term to wrestle back the lead heading into the fourth quarter.
Magpie defender Alan Toovey credited the win to a revitalised second half game plan which saw the players take the game on at all costs.
“We had to take risk and run the ball out,” Toovey told CTV in the rooms after the match.
“The message was to get a goal up forward and move it quickly. It worked.”

The 22-year-old believed there was enough time for the Magpies to kick one last goal after they fell behind by five-points when Crows forward Kurt Tippett kicked a goal with 15 seconds left.
At the centre bounce, Collingwood skipper Nick Maxwell gathered the ball and in a last ditch effort sent it inside the forward 50 to a contest resulting in a free kick to Anthony.
“I thought we had a bit of time and I knew we had a chance to get it out of the middle. When Jack was lining up for goal I knew he was going to drill it.
"It was a brilliant team comeback by everyone involved.
“The mood was the best I have ever felt in any game I have played. It was the best game I have ever been involved in.”
