Captain Nick Maxwell will be assessed this week by the club’s fitness staff after sustaining an injury to his upper groin and hip region.

The gutsy defender was substituted out of Saturday’s match against North Melbourne at three quarter time, with coach Nathan Buckley deeming the injury “serious enough to not want to risk him through that last quarter” in his post-match press conference.

Director of Football Geoff Walsh said that Maxwell’s injury would be monitored during the week.

“Nick sustained an injury to the upper groin or hip region on Saturday night and will be tested during the week by the club’s medical staff”.

Irish teenager Caolan Mooney will be sidelined for the next 2-3 weeks as the result of an ankle injury sustained in a tackle during the final quarter of Saturday’s loss.

Late withdrawal Alan Toovey will be tested this week after failing to play due to a corked thigh, as will Tyson Goldsack who has sat out the past fortnight with an ankle complaint.
