Anthony Rocca , Shane Wakelin and Eddie McGuire pay tribute to Collingwood captain Scott Burns ahead of his 250th game.
Rocca and Wakelin each took the opportunity to acknowledge Burns’ achievement on CTV and Magpie Radio respectively during the week at the Lexus Centre.
Rocca spoke glowingly of his time with Burns when interviewed by team mate Rhyce Shaw on CTV’s The Black and White Show, while Wakelin, who was a guest alongside Tyson Goldsack on this week’s edition of Magpie Radio’s The Squawk, praised Burns for his character and toughness throughout his distinguished career.
“I’ve been at the club for nearly just as long as Scotty has been, and it’s been terrific to see the way he’s developed as a player,” Rocca said.
“He was a fantastic player when he got there and he’s an even greater player now.
“His courage is never ever questioned and he’s always in and under. You’d rate him alongside Gavin Brown. I wish him all the best for his 250th and I’m rapt to be a part of it.”
Wakelin, meanwhile, had the following to say on The Squawk.
“What a magnificent effort.
“He’s probably one of the most courageous players I’ve seen play the game as well as play alongside. He’s as honest as the day is long and a wonderful team mate.
“It’s an absolute pleasure to have experienced my time at Collingwood with him, and he’s been a fantastic leader of the last 13-14 years.”
At Thursday's press conference for Burns, Collingwood president Eddie McGuire spoke in glowing terms of the Magpies' leader.
"If ever there was a time when you wanted to take your kid to the football and show them a role model, and someone that does everything right, and does it for the team, plays in a sportsmanlike manner, and plays hard and fair, it's to come along and watch Scott Burns in action in a milestone game."
Burns becomes only the 11th Collingwood player to reach 250 games, having been named the club’s 44th captain earlier this year, replacing the great Nathan Buckley.
