In his first season at the club, Jarrad Blight played in 18 of a possible 23 VFL matches.

He made his start for the VFL Magpies in round three and averaged 17.2 disposals in his first five matches.  He enjoyed another strong patch of play from rounds 11 to 14 averaging 21.3 disposals before dropping off to 10.4 disposals for the remainder of the year.

He contributed in all three finals matches giving the 18-year-old invaluable experience heading into next season.

While groomed as a running defender in 2009, a strong pre-season could see him build up his engine to play a role in the midfield.

2009 highlight
Round 14 v Casey Scorpions:  Blight was one of the few Magpies to shine in the 62-point loss at Sandringham to the Casey Scorpions.  In windy conditions Blight collected 26 disposals and 10 marks playing for the majority of the match on the wing.  VFL manager Paul Licuria commented after the game that Blight will be, “a really important player for this football club in years to come.”

Gavin Brown: Pleased with him for a first year player to play at a high standard.  He found himself in situations where he would have learned a hell of a lot.  Played mainly down back with stints on the wing.  Fantastic lateral movement and showed tremendous courage.
