Goal kicking

Collingwood kicked seven goals from 19 set shots (36.8% accurate) compared to Geelong’s nine goals from 16 set shots (60% accurate).  The Magpies scoring accuracy for the round was 43.3%, third worst in the competition (Richmond-16th, Sydney-15th).

The club has averaged 9.67 goal kickers per game across its first three matches (third highest in the competition behind Geelong (2nd) and St Kilda (1st)).  The Magpies averaged 9.18 goal kickers last season also third in the competition.

Score Launches

The Magpies kicked 5.7 from scoring launches which originated from their defensive 50, the second best in the competition (Hawthorn was best with 8.3).  Collingwood kicked 6.9 from launches deriving from the midfield (13th in the competition) and 2.1 from launches within the forward 50 (8th in the competition).

Even-steven

Collingwood had 30 clearances on the night compared to Geelong’s 27.  Dane Swan led the day for both sides with eight clearances three more than Scott Pendlebury and Jimmy Bartel.

The Magpies had 31 first possessions of the footy (first possession after a stoppage), one less than the Cats.  Scott Pendlebury and Swan each had nine first possessions to lead the team.

Both clubs had 51 inside-50s with the Cats scoring 62.7% of them time and the Magpies scoring 58.8% of the time.

Shannon Cox - Breakdown

The agile defender had 22 possessions on Thursday night and used the ball with 95.5% efficiency.  He had 11 handball receives, five short kicks (a kick less than 40 meters that results to the teams advantage), four long kicks (a kick of more than 40 metres to a 50/50 contest or better for the team) and three inside 50s.
