Harry O’Brien:  Who is Jack Anthony?  What does Jack Anthony stand for?

John Anthony:  As you know with the media, everyone has their opinion about somebody.  I stand for someone who is very passionate about my sport.  You wouldn’t be doing something which is as full on as football if you weren’t passionate about it.

H:  Can you tell me about your background?

J:  I have three sisters and my mum.  She looked after us by herself after my Dad left when I was four, for six or seven years.  Michael, my Stepdad, came in and has been the best father I could ever wish for.  Michael has been fantastic and very supportive.  Being the only man in the family, he supported me through my football career.  I really appreciate and love my family.

H:  Your neck injury was something that was the worst possible thing that could have happened to you.  It was almost a career-ending injury.  How did you turn one of your greatest tragedies to one of your greatest triumphs?

J:  It goes down to positive thinking produces positive results.  It was a serious injury.  I think everyone in life has something serious happen to them which changes their path forever.

It was actually a blessing in disguise.  Had I not got injured, I probably wouldn’t be seeing myself in the forward line.  I might be playing down in the backline with you.  Everything happens for a reason and I am a strong believer in that.
