COLLINGWOOD has opened its NAB Cup campaign with a 43-point thumping of a young Richmond side in the second game of Saturday night's Pool Two fixture at Etihad Stadium.

The Tigers were eliminated from the competition on the back of the 0.7.8 (50) to 0.1.1 (7) loss after Carlton handed them an 18-point defeat in the first game of the night.

Chris Dawes was the dominant forward on the ground with three goals for the Pies, who fielded a strong line-up for their first hit out, while Dayne Beams was outstanding through the middle with 11 possessions and a goal.

The match saw much-heralded recruits Chris Tarrant and Andrew Krakouer in action for the first time, with both putting in solid performances.

The Magpies poured on the pressure from the outset, but despite their dominance nearly 16 minutes had elapsed before Dawes kicked the first goal of the game.

The Collingwood forward's snap had to pass the first video review of the competition after Jake Batchelor's despairing dive put some doubt in the goal umpire's mind, but was soon given the all clear.

Dawes doubled his tally just two minutes later with a brilliant snap in traffic and Leigh Brown goaled from long range in the shadows of half time to set up the win.
