Collingwood skipper Nick Maxwell will have to wait until Monday to find out when he can return to the playing field.
The 26-year-old was bumped by West Coast’s Andrew Embley in the NAB Cup semi-final win and suffered a blow to the kidneys which required a three-night stay in a Perth hospital and has subsequently missed three weeks of footy.
Upon discharge Maxwell was required to rest and partake in minimal movement for two weeks.
Now that the initial healing process has been completed, Maxwell will check in with the club’s doctor after the weekend to find out when he can return to the side.
"I've basically had two weeks of bed rest since it happened," Maxwell said at Thursday’s AFL captains media session.
"There's a few more days to go and then I'll see the specialist on Monday and he'll tell me where I'm at.
"So basically I know nothing. I've been bored out of my brain for two weeks, but it was good to watch the boys do well last Friday (in the NAB Cup grand final).”
When pressed by the journalists in attendance on his possible return next Saturday for round one against Port Adelaide, Maxwell responded, “No, literally he (specialist) said nothing. I'll go back Monday and I'm sure we'll be able to report more on Monday night.”
"He said if I do everything right in the two weeks, which I have done so far, it should be fine. But he said if I didn't there might be issues.
"I've done everything I'm supposed to do, which is nothing, so hopefully it holds me in good stead.
"There was a bit of damage to the kidneys and some bleeding. They will re-scan it, he said he'll make a call then and that there was no point in guessing until we've had a look at the new scans. I'm not in any pain."
Maxwell acknowledged that there was one positive in his time away from the team, spending time with his three-month old daughter Milla Eve.
“A positive from the injury is I have enjoyed some special time with my new little girl.
"Along with my wife, we have enjoyed some rare family time."
