Sidebottom leading Magpie in Liston
Steele Sidebottom polled the greatest number of votes for his club in the JJ Liston Trophy vote count
Announced at Etihad Stadium on Tuesday night, Sidebottom polled nine votes including two three-vote performances in Round 19 and 20. His consistency in the VFL side (averaged 26 disposals per game) across 11 matches warranted elevation to the senior side for the finals campaign.
Danny Stanley (15 games/ av. 25 disposals) and Ryan Cook (16 games/ av. 27 disposals) finished with eight votes each while rookie-listed Magpie Jarryd Blair (16 games/ av. 20 disposals) collected six votes.
The voting system is similar to the AFL Brownlow voting with umpires allocating 3, 2, 1 after the match.
When Collingwood face North Ballarat in the preliminary final on Saturday, it will be forced to contend with the winner of the JJ Liston Trophy, Myles Sewell. The brother of the Hawthorn midfielder, Brad, polled 18 votes to win the VFL’s highest individual honour.
The VFL Magpies will take on the Roosters at TEAC Oval on Saturday 19 September at 2 pm.
