* THE EXCHANGE RATE
Currently one Aussie dollar will get you 25 Thai Baht, 24 Russian Rubles and 9 Mexican Pesos. Alternately one Collingwood set shot at goal will get you just one Collingwood point. Surely they are worth more than that.
Forget protecting the superannuation of people over 50, what is the government doing to protect our blooper situation inside 50?
* VINCE LOMBARDI (Yes, he of American football fame)
Vince said a lot of things but I particularly like this one: “There is no glory in practice but without practice, there is no glory.” Now the Mighty Fightin’ Pies might have had an off night in front of the sticks and it could very easily prove to be a ‘oncer’ but that doesn’t mean it will. Practice doesn’t make perfect, perfect practice does.
To quote the late great VL again “We didn’t lose the game, we just ran out of time.” Well, we’ve got 19 more weeks to get it right!!!!!!!!!!!!!
* JOSH FRASER
If the WWF (no, not the wrestling organization, the world wildlife foundation) finds out what we are currently doing to him they may very well put the Thin White Duke on the endangered species list.
And, despite the fact that he always looks as happy as a mortician, I’ve gotta say Fraze appears to have taken ‘things’ to a new level this season. I just pray that he can keep up the tempo – they do say players run a marathon each game. That’s an awful lot of marathons when you add them up.

"Dear Hotrod,
After the umpiring in our round 1 match, were you surprised to see Adelaide concede 30 free kicks to 11 against St Kilda, yet Collingwood still finished on the wrong side of the free kicks ledger against Melbourne? Or is it all merely a coincidence and re-affirmation that Jeff Gieshen's coaching career at Richmond was cut tragically short?"
Paul ‘Tex’ Sugden
To be fair Paul, as tragically short as the Giesh’s coaching stint at Tigerland was, we should still rejoice in how tragically long Teflon Terry’s is!
As for the umps, trying to work them out is a bit like learning Chinese algebra – not only is impossible for the average person to do, I simply have no use for it.
In short, they both make my head hurt.
G’day Hotrod,
Just wondering whether you think we will see Rus with his new shoulders back in the side any time soon? After all, he can run faster than Usain Bolt, so he would be a nice addition to the tall forward stocks along with Beyonce, The Treasurer and the soon to return Lakeside Latin.
Cheers,
Jack Murfett.
Geez, after Thursday night I’d be happy to see Ruz back with his OLD shoulders!! But it’s a classic baby & the bathwater situation Jack. Even the man with 3 names missed one!! As ‘orrible as Thursdee night was, the Maxipies did trouble the scorers 30 times! And that 30 came against the best in the biz.
So, the current forward set up does work but I agree, the Pies look much stronger when the Lakeside Latin is plonked in the goal square and The Treasurer and Beyonce roam the 50 metre arc.
All four? Can’t see it happening mate. You’d need air traffic control from Heathrow airport to stop them running into each other!!
Hello Hotrod,
Mate, I wish I wrote half as entertainingly as you. Please tell me what your secret is?
