Copeland Watch top-five
After two strong performances, midfielder Scott Pendlebury has charged out to a comfortable lead in the Copeland Watch. The 21-year-old is averaging 27.5 disposals and 5.5 marks (all career highs) from the first two rounds. His numbers are made even more impressive when stacked up against his total game time. Pendlebury has averaged 70% of actual playing time from his first two games.
The marked man Dane Swan leads the club in total disposals and averages a goal a game, statistics which have moved him to second position in the Copeland Watch. He had 33 possessions and 10 marks against Melbourne on the weekend and will play a crucial part in the Magpies game against the Cats on Thursday night.
After only playing one game, the supporters have jumped on Dale Thomas to propel him into third place in the Copeland Watch. The lively midfielder/forward was forced to miss out last week with an illness but his play in the first round against Adelaide was strong enough to maintain his position in the top three (21 possessions, 5 marks, 4 tackles).
Forward Leon Davis had a wonderful game last week using the ball with 87% efficiency from 23 disposals. His defensive work in the off season looks to have paid dividends after averaging five tackles (career-highs) in his first two matches. If he keeps up his consistent play he should feature in the top five for the majority of the season.
The kicking machine Alan Didak was in scintillating form last week racking up 29 touches, 10 marks and three goals in his side’s win. The 2006 Copeland Trophy winner is in his ninth season of senior footy and will want to make a big impact this year to make amends for his off-field indiscretions late last season. |
