Collingwood senior coach Mick Malthouse opened his weekly CTV message to members by recapping the performance of recent Magpie debutant Ben Sinclair.

Malthouse entertained questions from supporters via Twitter using the hash tag #askmick on a range of issues coming out of the 74-point win.

Neville Bartos’ account @spotty posed the question, “What did you think of Sinclair’s debut?”

Sinclair started the match as the substitute and played just over a quarter of football coming on for Lachlan Keeffe late in the third term.  Sinclair kicked one goal and had eight possessions in his first game for the club.

The 19-year-old was a late inclusion for Dale Thomas, who missed the contest with a corked thigh sustained in last week’s win over Gold Coast.

“He didn’t know until late on Saturday that he was playing,” Malthouse said in CTV’s “Mick’s Message” to members.

“He was prepared for the seconds game and jumped up for the game.  I thought he was lively.

“He would have played a lot earlier expect from round one through round 11 he couldn’t play because of injury.

“He has just gotten back and played only three VFL games so its very meritorious that he can get up and it’s a testament to David Buttifant’s (sports science director) fitness campaign that got him ready to play.

Ben Sinclair speaks to CTV in the rooms after the win.

“He is another young lad who we are very keen to play and is one of three we think that can play before the end of the season.”

Sinclair was the club’s fourth debutant of season 2011 and 1091st player to represent Collingwood since the inception of the VFL in 1897.

Sinclair, 19, was drafted by the Magpies from the Oakleigh Chargers and Scotch College with the 62nd overall pick in the 2009 Draft.

He follows Alex Fasolo (round 12), Luke Rounds (round 15) and Lachlan Keeffe (round 16) as players to make their AFL debuts for Collingwood so far in 2011. Andrew Krakouer and Simon Buckley both debuted for the Magpies in round one after previously representing Richmond and Melbourne respectively.

Sinclair is a quick, aggressive midfielder who has impressed when he's played for the Magpies in NAB Cup matches in both 2010 and 2011.
