Collingwood continues to shore up its medium to long term future, with Ben Reid and Alex Fasolo the latest players to agree terms on new contracts.

Reid, 23, and Fasolo, 20, have both accepted two year offers.

After an injury interrupted start to the season Reid, a premiership player in 2010 and an All-Australian defender in 2011, has struck a rich vein of form to remind everyone of his ability and importance to Collingwood as a key defender. Having played 68 matches across almost six seasons, and 15 of 20 this year, the elegant left-footer is approaching what ought to be his prime years in black and white.

Fasolo, with his nous around goal and smooth, powerful kicking, has become a constant of the Collingwood side since making his debut in the middle of the 2011 season. The West Australian-born forward and future midfielder has played 32 of a possible 35 games since breaking into the senior side in round 12 last year and, with 38 goals, is scoring at better than a goal-a-game rate.

Collingwood Director of Football, Geoff Walsh, said the commitment from both players was heartening.

“We would like to think Collingwood is club where every player gets a first class football education, where the best possible chance of achieving team and personal success is available to those who give all that they’ve got to give. It’s pleasing that Ben and Alex are both prepared to make that sacrifice and commitment to Collingwood,” Walsh said.

The signings are the latest of a series of new deals announced this season, with Dayne Beams most recently agreeing to a three year contract. Beams settled terms last week, following commitments from the likes of vice-captain Scott Pendlebury, Heath Shaw, Luke Ball, Steele Sidebottom, Lachlan Keeffe and Jarryd Blair.
