Three Magpies commit
Collingwood is delighted to confirm it has re-signed Sam Dwyer, Lachlan Keeffe and Josh Thomas until the end of the 2015 season.
Representing the changing face of the Collingwood side, the emerging trio each share a common thread in having overcome adversity to establish themselves as valuable contributors at AFL level.
National Recruiting Manager Derek Hine said the club’s decision to recommit to Dwyer, Keeffe and Thomas highlights its faith in their ability to continue to flourish at senior level.
“I think that with all three boys, they’ve all had their own unique stories,” Hine said.
“In the case of Lachlan and Josh, they have shown a great deal of resilience and professionalism in overcoming serious injuries to establish themselves at the club, while Sam has pleasantly surprised us all in how quickly he has adapted to the AFL system.
“Our decision to re-sign Sam, Lachlan and Josh emphasises the level of confidence we have in them, but it is also the confidence that all three boys have shown in the club and its future. That’s really pleasing as the development and senior coaches have done a terrific job with them and we have no doubt they will continue to develop.”
Selected via the VFL in last year’s rookie draft, Dwyer has made a seamless transition to senior football, with the 26-year old demonstrating a degree of nous and composure which belies both his relative inexperience and previous inability to secure a berth on an AFL list.
Recently returning from a knee reconstruction, Keeffe has made an immediate impact upon his inclusion to the Magpies side, his athleticism and versatility ensuring he is likely to be a key defensive pillar for a considerable time to come.
Adding another string to the Magpie midfield bow, Thomas meanwhile has overcome three years of injury and misfortune to finally make his AFL bow this season in a triumph of resilience and perseverance.
