You may also find these numbers interesting…
Tom Langdon, the team’s only debutant this year, leads the club for intercept marks (15) after seven rounds. Remarkably, only five players in the entire competition have taken more. Nick Maxwell (14) and Scott Pendlebury (8) are the next in line.
Poor old Brodie Grundy is having a tough run with the umpires. He has given away 22 free kicks and earned only four. Brent Macaffer has a similar record, having conceded 12 free kicks during his tagging duties and received only two himself. At the other end of the scale, Scott Pendlebury has received 17 free kicks yet conceded only four.
Score assists are worth their weight in gold, and Jarryd Blair is the man creating opportunities more than any other Magpie. In six games, Blair has had a hand in 10 scoring shots. Jamie Elliott, Scott Pendlebury and Dane Swan are next with seven.
With a kicking efficiency of 87.1 per cent, it’s easy to forget that Lachlan Keeffe only picked up his first Sherrin in 2014. Ben Sinclair is ranked second with 86.6 per cent.
Predictably, Travis Cloke is ranked first at the club for contested marks (11). Jamie Elliott’s six sees him in second place.
Which players are providing the best at providing some run and carry? Heritier Lumumba has played on from 53.7 per cent of his 41 marks so far this year. Steele Sidebottom has played on from 48.6 per cent of his grabs, while Ben Sinclair (58.3 per cent from 12 marks) and Lachlan Keeffe (54.5 per cent from 11 marks) have been keen to turn defence into attack where possible. Lumumba has taken 10 bounces, too, which sees him lead Scott Pendlebury and Steele Sidebottom (six bounces).
It’s no surprise to see Luke Ball leading the way for smothers. He has eight to his name so far. Dayne Beams has five. On the other side of the coin, Brodie Grundy, Brent Macaffer and Dane Swan have been smothered six times themselves.
Promoted rookie Jack Frost has been a revelation at full back this season. Just ask his opponents. He has affected 39 spoils in seven games, seeing him miles out in front of Nick Maxwell (26) and Lachlan Keeffe (25).
Ever pondered Clinton Young’s influence when fit and firing? The ex-Hawk has carried the ball 3278 metres in six games this year. It’s 13 metres more than Dayne Beams, but Young’s average metres gained per disposal is 31.2. Travis Cloke is next with 25.3 metres.
In seven games, 412,268 people have turned up to watch Collingwood in action (an average crowd of 58,895 per game).
