Collingwood midfielder Dayne Beams returned to the training track today after overcoming a bout of gastro which saw him sidelined for the first session of 2014.

Beams was among a group of Collingwood players who succumbed to stomach upset following a trip to Bali during the Christmas and New Year's break.

The 2012 Copeland Trophy winner was eased back into the fray, participating in a weights session before enjoying a light kick around on Olympic Park Oval.

Director of Football Rodney Eade said he expects Beams to resume full training by the end of the week.

"We had a few guys who had a little bit of gastro for four or five days between them," Eade said.

"Dayne Beams was back today. He did a little bit which means his strength is improving, so you’d imagine by the end of the week, he'd be back to full fitness and join training."
