Only two Collingwood players have featured in the latest round of voting for the AFLCA’s Champion Player of the Year Award following the side’s disappointing five-point loss to Gold Coast at Metricon Stadium on Saturday night.

Queensland native Dayne Beams and forward Travis Cloke both earned recognition for their efforts, garnering a single vote apiece on what was otherwise a forgettable night for the Black and White.

Beams’ clean hands around the stoppages were acknowledged by the coaches. He recorded 10 clearances and 14 contested possessions as part of his 25-disposal performance.

The Southport product was also credited with three score assists, further confirmation of the offensive capabilities that make him so dangerous when being rested up forward.

Meanwhile it was Travis Cloke’s first half that earned him his accolades, racking up five scoring shots (two goals) and collecting 12 disposals and five marks all before the major break.

For Gold Coast, it was the young guns who dominated the voting.

Nathan Buckley and Guy McKenna were unanimous in their declaration of David Swallow as the best on ground for his 31-disposal effort.

Collingwood skipper Scott Pendlebury is still the Magpies’ best chance to take out the top honour, sitting in fifth place overall with 59 votes, 16 behind leader Nathan Fyfe (Fremantle).
