Mature-age ruckman Ben Hudson has kept a low profile during his time at Collingwood, but tonight's episode of The Club reveals his importance behind the scenes in developing the next generation of Magpie ruckmen.
The 35-year-old was enjoying an outstanding season in the VFL, averaging 17.7 disposals, 5.9 clearances and 32.9 hitouts in nine games before a shoulder injury consigned him to the sidelines.
Hudson’s ability to teach the finer points of ruckwork has helped accelerate the development of young big men Jarrod Witts and Brodie Grundy, who together have shouldered Collingwood’s ruck burden despite having only seven games to their names before the start of 2014.
