Key Collingwood duo Ben Reid and Jesse White will miss Friday night's season opener against Fremantle after failing to train fully on Wednesday.

Both players have been battling calf complaints.

Coach Nathan Buckley said on Tuesday the pair would have to train strongly in Wednesday's session if they were to push for selection to face the Dockers but the club has now confirmed both will miss the season opener.

White and Reid appeared on the track for part of the Magpies' morning hit-out but were restricted to jogging laps.

After a brief kick-to-kick and some more laps, they retreated inside while the rest of the squad completed the session.

Alan Toovey trained ahead of his expected return from a knee reconstruction while young pair Tim Broomhead and Nathan Freeman ran solidly.

Paul Seedsman, who is recovering from hip surgery, appeared later in the session and ran laps.

GWS recruit Taylor Adams is now a strong chance to play his first game for Collingwood on Friday night with Tom Langdon also to be considered for his debut.
