'BRING on Fremantle' is the message from Collingwood coach Mick Malthouse after both sides won their sixth games of the season on Saturday night.

The Pies thrashed North Melbourne by 66 points at the MCG, and travel to Subiaco next Friday night to face Fremantle - itself riding high after a breakthrough win in Brisbane.

The Collingwood coach can’t wait for his squad to match it with the form team of the competition.

“We’re playing a very good football side - it’s been in the making for a few years,” Malthouse said after the match.

“Six and one is maybe surprising but … they are a highly competitive unit. To go over there, they obviously have their tail up. It’s a big test.”

For the second consecutive week, Collingwood had 13 different goalscorers and Malthouse was pleased his charges got reward for effort - singling out Steele Sidebottom, who kicked five goals.

“Steele Sidebottom worked pretty hard in the last few weeks without a lot of reward - I think five goals is something he will remember for the rest of his life,” Malthouse said.

The win over North may have looked good on the scoreboard, but the Collingwood coach is a hard man to please, admitting he wasn’t overly impressed with the performance of his side.

“I guess another win is handy (but) I didn’t think today’s game was exceptional,” he said.

“I know we won in the end pretty easy but I thought a few things that North Melbourne did were very effective and certainly we will look at that to improve.”

Malthouse - who joined Jock McHale, Kevin Sheedy and Allan Jeans as men to have coached a AFL/VFL side to 350 wins - was also buoyed with the depth of the squad, with inclusions Shane O’Bree and Cameron Wood standing up to the test.
