A run in Wednesday night’s intra-club match act as the next step in Daniel Wells’ journey to full fitness and a Collingwood debut.
After spending the majority of his first pre-season away from the main group, the former North Melbourne midfielder will join his new teammates in a four-quarter match simulation exercise.
Fans will have to wait until quarter time to see Wells pull on the number three for the first time.
“I’m going to play two quarters – the second quarter and the third quarter,” Wells told Collingwood Media on Tuesday.
“Then I’ll probably do a bit more work in the fourth quarter back in the gym, just to keep topping up.
“I don’t want to waste any opportunities to work on my fitness and catch up with everyone.
After a summer that was admittedly “really tough”, the 243-game veteran joined the majority of his new teammates in full training in early January.
Since, he has participated in full ground and contact drills without concern.
Director of Football Geoff Walsh told Collingwood Media on January 27 that Wells was “tracking really well”.
“Daniel played some time in both of our match-like hit outs this week and, right now, he is on track to participate in some part of our pre-season campaign,” Walsh said.
“He has attacked his work and is building his preparation up nicely.”

The more time he spends on the field, the more Wells becomes familiar with the men he now calls teammates.
“I’ve felt a lot more part of the team now that I’m training with the main group,” Wells said.
“It’s been fantastic. The boys have welcomed me with open arms and I’m looking forward to tomorrow night.”
And after proving himself at Arden Street, it’s time to do the same at the Magpies.
“The club has put a lot of trust in me and a lot of faith in me,” he said.
“I’m going to make sure I deliver.”
