Collingwood will enjoy an injection of youth this weekend with emerging stars Paul Seedsman and Josh Thomas named as the inclusions to the match day squad for Saturday's clash with Richmond.

Replacing tall defender Jack Frost (omitted) and half back Ben Johnson (calf), Seedsman and Thomas have been rewarded for their form at VFL level in earning a place in Collingwood's 22.

Seedsman, 21, has largely been a peripheral figure for the opening three weeks of the season after a hamstring strain suffered on the eve of round one forced him temporarily to the sidelines.

While his versatility saw Seedsman named as a substitute for Collingwood's triumph over Carlton a fortnight ago, the utility enjoyed a one week stint at VFL level in a bid to replenish his match fitness.

Although the VFL Magpies suffered defeat at the hands of Werribee, albeit by eight points, Seedsman was named among the side’s best, collecting 28 touches, including 11 contested possessions as his dash and carry came to the fore.

With coach Nathan Buckley declaring him unlucky to be omitted from the Collingwood side following a heartening debut performance during round one, Thomas has returned to the senior fray after spending a fortnight with Dale Tapping's side.

Thomas has impressed during both outings with the VFL Magpies, earning plaudits from development coach Craig McRae, who described the 21-year old's contribution as 'valuable', helping the outfit to a 1-1 start to the season.

Having endured a torrid run with injuries throughout his fledgling career thus far, Thomas' emergence is considered due reward for his perseverance, making him one of the many bright stories to emerge from the Westpac Centre in 2013.

Meanwhile, Johnson will spend at least a week on the sidelines after experiencing calf soreness following Collingwood's 55-point loss to Hawthorn.

Following an injury riddled 2012 season, Johnson experienced a bright start to the current campaign, averaging 16 disposals per game across the opening three rounds of the year.

Having been named an emergency, Frost is likely to find his path back to senior footy will travel through Victoria Park this Saturday, as the VFL Magpies face Frankston.

One of three Magpies elevated from the rookie list, Frost's meteoric rise has seen him play two senior AFL games less than a year after a hip complaint restricted him to four appearances in the VFL.

The VFL Magpies though certainly won't be lacking for experience again this weekend, with Alan Didak and Andrew Krakouer scheduled to feature alongside a litany of emerging Black and White stars.
