Even, Talented, Young, but is it enough? - Liljohnz

I have no doubt that collingwood is a solid, even team.
But over the last 7 weeks, we have only played 2 teams that will be in the top 4, Saint Kilda, and the Bulldogs.

unfortauntely, we lost to Saints, but could have changed the result if we had kicked straight, and the Bulldogs, who we got a jump on early, and won convincingly.

But really we have played Melbourne, North Melbourne, Essendon, Carlton, and Hawthorn.

Over the next 4 weeks we have Fremantle (2nd), Geelong (3rd), Brisbane (8th) and Bulldogs (7th).

The team has a fair few A grade players in it including All Australians Didak, Davies, Medhurst, and talentes youngsters like Shaw, Cloke, Pendlebury and Thomas grouped with the emergence of Wellingham, Beams, and Sidebottom, and newcomers Ball and Jolly can we go the distance? Should we finished 1, or 2 on the ladder with the team we have now, or are we going to fade, and finish 3-6 on the lader, or 3-8, and have a poor finals series like last year? (Have little doubt we will make finals ).

If we are, what do we need to do, or to get to take it to the next level?

What we don't have is a reliance on ONE player to turn a game on its head. i.e. Riewoldt at Saints (look at them now), J.Brown at Brisbane, Pavlich at Freo etc.

What we do have is an abundance of stars capable of turning a game without being reliant on just one. If Didak doesn't get you Medhurst will. If not it's Davis. Or Thomas. Or Cloke. Or Swan. Or Pendles. Or Rusty (as shown on the weekend). Someone will bob up in our side to "spark" us and get us going or across the line in games.

Much has been said about our greatest strength in our "eveness", however, we do have the star power to inflict serious damage on oppositions.

A guy at work asked me to rank Collingwood's greatest ever hard man player. I struggled to go past

1. Ron Andrews
2. Craig Kelly
3. Rene Kink
4. Darren Millane

Any thoughts?

Reid -- he is garnering increasing confidence with every game, every contest. Starting to hold contested marks, to back himself on the ground , to hold his feet and the thing I liked most about his game was the long rapier like kicks. He is a genuine footballer and is surprisingly quick, despite a loping look to his running. I still think that a trial on a wing would be interesting when Presti comes back in. Who would outmark him in a wing(?)and that type of delivery coming into the forward line favours the forwards who play in front -- and that's exactly what Dawes has brought to the F line.

Tooves - the non believers are gradually being converted, welcome on board boys. Never underestimate a bloke with genuine spirit and application, combined with good athleticism and a mix of footy skills. Go Tooooves.

I just looked up the translation! "Today (friday) Collingwood shows how to overcome them. In recent matches has gone triumphantly so keep up the same pace."
