The grand Collingwood career of Scott Pendlebury will continue for at least another two seasons.
The Magpie captain, who was already contracted for 2020, has put his name to a one year contract extension that secures his future until the end of the 2021 campaign at least.
By that time he is likely to own a swathe of records.
Pendlebury (301 matches) is poised to break Tony Shaw’s Collingwood games record of 313 in round 14 of the upcoming season. On the same occasion he will break Nathan Buckley’s record of 161 matches as Collingwood captain.
The 32 year-old five-time Copeland Trophy winner is also poised this year to break the all-time MCG games record of 200 held by Richmond legend Kevin Bartlett.
Pendlebury has been a model of consistent excellence that Collingwood list manager Ned Guy said the club was eager to retain for as long as possible.
“Scott sets an example in the way he plays, trains and leads. His value to Collingwood is immense,” Guy said.
“His achievements speak for themselves but the influence of his professional dedication and constant search for improvement are so important to those around him. Very few can win six All-Australian blazers but everyone can learn something from a footballer who has played 20 or more matches in 12 of his 14 seasons and holds to the standard he does.
“It is very pleasing to know he will be with us for at least another two seasons.”
Pendlebury said the contract renewal was business as usual for him.
“We’ve got our list in solid shape from a talent perspective and a strong sense of purpose; what we want to do and how we want to do it. I’m proud of our program and I was keen to remain involved with it,” Pendlebury said.
