Three Magpies this week have operations as players look to recover and refresh at the conclusion of the 2016 home and away season.
As attention turns to what lies ahead, James Aish, Tyson Goldsack and Mason Cox will all recover from hip surgery.
Aish has already gone under the knife, while Goldsack and Cox are booked in before the week is out.
Collingwood director of football Neil Balme commented on the trio in his final ‘Blackmores Injury Update’ of the season.
“James Aish came off with a bit of a hamstring problem, which we think is hip related,” Balme said.
“He’s actually had surgery on Monday for his hip – arthroscopic surgery.
“As will Tyson Goldsack and Mason Cox. They’ll both have their hips looked at as well, if they haven’t already, within the next couple of days.
“They should recover pretty well from that.”
Unfortunately for Goldsack, surgery means the end of a bid to play in the VFL finals. Cox meanwhile, finished one game short of qualifying to play under Dale Tapping in September.
One who will is key defender Jack Frost.
Frost was limited to just five disposals against Footscray on Saturday as Bulldogs claimed a 32-point victory.
Balme today revealed the 24-year-old struggled through the game with a hip problem of his own.
“Jack Frost played most of the game in the VFL last week,” he said.
“His hip is a little bit sore, but we’re hoping he can recover and play VFL again this week.”
Jesse White injured his knee in the AFL side’s one-point loss to Hawthorn at the MCG, however joins a list of players Balme expects to be fit and firing when pre-season resumes in November.
“There are a number of players who are already recovering from various injuries.
“We expect them all to be adequately prepared to return to action early in the pre-season and hopeful of them all having really encouraging campaigns in 2017. I can’t wait for that.”
The Collingwood injury list at the end of the 2016 season reads…
Taylor Adams (ankle & hip)
James Aish (hip)
Tim Broomhead (shoulder)
Mason Cox (hip)
Jamie Elliott (back)
Alex Fasolo (shoulder)
