In his first season on the rookie list after signing with the club through the NSW scholarship scheme, Scott Reed made a substantial impact in the VFL playing 18 matches.
Gavin Brown trialed the 19-year-old in a number of roles in 2009 including as a target up forward as well as a sweeper down back. Reed looked most at home playing as a rebounding defender, his clean hands assisting in moving the ball out of danger on more than one occasion.
Enjoyed his best footy in the second half of the season as he averaged 21 disposals in his final 10 matches.
Gavin Brown: I was a real eye-opener for him traveling down from NSW and living in a total footy environment. In the second half of the season he was very good up on the wing and even up forward. Looks like he will be a real versatile player.
2009 highlights
Round 20 v Geelong: Facing extremely wet conditions at Skilled Stadium, Reed continued his recent run of good form. Playing mostly on the wing with stints up forward, the 19-year-old collected a season-high 25 possessions.
Semi final v Williamstown: Recorded his third straight game over the 20-possession mark (24). Praised by the head coach for his toughness over the ball and his hard tackling. Looks to enjoy playing in the big games.
