Collingwood’s high-altitude training camp has lived up to expectations with captain Nick Maxwell declaring it the hardest two weeks of training he has experienced.

The 27-year-old believes the club’s 2010 success is now in the past as the Magpies aim for repeat success.

Speaking to CTV in a Thanksgiving Special, Maxwell highlighted the determination the group displayed in its training in Flagstaff, Arizona.

“Any talk of premiership hangover was smacked on the head pretty quickly,” Maxwell told CTV during Thanksgiving dinner.

“It’s been the hardest two weeks of training I have been associated with.”??

Sports science director David Buttifant has incorporated several new aspects into the club’s training camp including hiking Mt Humphrey on consecutive days and increasing the conditioning work conducted at Northern Arizona University.??

“The great thing from what I have seen is the players just want to work and want to keep working,” added Maxwell.

“Going on previous years every now and then guys would be complaining. This year everyone has put their nose down and bum up and worked so hard.

“I have been incredibly impressed with how the guys have come back and how they have gone about it over the past fortnight.”??

Collingwood head coach Mick Malthouse was quick to back up the skipper’s sentiments.

“The camp has been hard.  That first week was the hardest training camp we have done.”
