Collingwood coach Nathan Buckley says the club is still unsure when it will meet with Lachlan Keeffe and Josh Thomas following the pair's positive 'A' test to performance-enhancing drug clenbuterol.

The Magpies were made aware of the Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority's findings last Friday, before the test results were released publicly on Monday afternoon.

An analysis of the players' B-sample will take place on April 14.

Both Keeffe and Thomas have sought their own independent legal representation through the AFL Players' Association before speaking to club officials.

"It hasn't happened yet (the meeting) and I don't know when it's going to happen," Buckley said at the Westpac Centre on Tuesday morning.

"It's a key issue that we've got to consider in the medium-term and short-term...my job is to prepare the team and get them ready to play and perform on Saturday."

Buckley has also backed president Eddie McGuire's declaration that if Keeffe and Thomas were found to have taken the banned substance deliberately the club would have no choice but to sack them immediately.

Both Keeffe and Thomas have proclaimed their innocence.

"That's the stark reality that Josh and Lachie find themselves in," Buckley said.

"Ignorance is no excuse and there's still plenty of information that we need to understand to get to the bottom of that."

The Magpies will face the Brisbane Lions at the Gabba on Saturday night.
