Collingwood versus Carlton.

Is there any greater rivalry in Australian sport than that shared by football’s most famous inner city clubs?

It’s a rivalry that can be sourced as far back as Grand Final day 1910 – to the days of “Jock” McHale and “Pompey” Elliott - when the men from the Carringbush wrested the precious pennant from the vanquished boys in Blue.

Now, more than 100 years on, expect old wounds to be reopened when former greats of both teams again run out, in a Collingwood-Carlton charity match for cancer research and awareness at Visy Park on Sunday, May 4.

The match will be in aid of Peter McCallum Cancer Foundation, a key charity of both clubs and the E.J. Whitten Foundation for Prostate Cancer Awareness for Men’s Health.

1990 Premiership players Gavin Crosisca, Damian Monkhorst, Shane Kerrison and Mick Gayfer and dual Copeland Trophy winner Paul Licuria will be pulling on the Black and White once again, while Magpie fans will also to see recent favourites Shane Wakelin and Brodie Holland and 2010 premiership players Leigh Brown and Ben Johnson back in action.

For Carlton, Anthony Kotoufides and Ang Christou will be amongst those turning out in Blue, together with Alex Marcou, Setanta O’Hailpin, Glenn Manton, Brad Fisher and Ian Aitken.

Coach of Carlton will be legendary mentor David Parkin, ably assisted by Ron Barassi, with Mick Erwin re-appointed as Collingwood coach in the grand McHale tradition.

The organising committee members of both the Collingwood Past Players - Keith Burns, Murray Browne, Ronnie McKeown and Mark Orval and the Spirit of Carlton - Col Kinnear, Dennis Munari, Ian Collins, John Warden, Geoff Southby and David Rhys Jones - have joined forces to reunite in combat “old timers” of the 1980s, ’90s and ’00s.

Bookending the game are pre-match and post-match functions, with Auskick Under 12 matches to be staged at half-time and other special half-time activities.

Tickets cost $10 for adult, while kids under the age of 15 will be admitted free of charge.
