Collingwood premiership captain Nick Maxwell has nominated 19-year-old Darcy Moore as an ideal replacement should Travis Cloke be ruled out with injury this weekend.

Moore was omitted from Collingwood’s round 16 side after playing the first two games of his career against Hawthorn and Port Adelaide the weeks prior.

However after just one game in the VFL, he may be recalled to fill the void left by Cloke in the forward line.

“Darcy is probably the one for mine,” Maxwell told co-host Michael Christian on Collingwood Media’s ‘Monday’s With Maxy’.

Comparing the 2014 No. 6 pick to fellow tall Mason Cox, Maxwell believes Moore’s versatility will help his cause for selection.

“He just brought great energy (against Hawthorn) and he played at half back against Port Adelaide,” Maxwell said.

“He offers you a little bit more because he can go back as well if needed.”

Moore played forward at Frankston Oval in the VFL on Sunday and finished the game with two last-quarter goals.

He took five marks and also had an impressive score assist in a blistering final quarter.

However it is the sudden rise of American recruit Cox which has the AFL paying attention.

The ruckman totalled a career-high 45 hit outs against Frankston on Sunday, in addition to 10 disposals, five marks and a goal.

While it would be a shock selection, Maxwell raised the option of going tall against the Bulldogs next Sunday.

“Cox kicked a goal and had 45 hitouts and five marks. We could actually use him in the ruck and pinch-hit forward and then sub him out later on if you think we’re going in too tall,” he said.

“It’s a really important game against the Western Bulldogs. The team that wins this is going to give itself a proper shot at playing finals.”
