It was a tough night for Jeremy Howe at the 2017 Brownlow Medal.
As a favourite to win Mark of the Year, he went home empty handed.
And as one of the strongest Collingwood performers this year, he went home with not a single Brownlow vote next to his name.
But according to his skipper Scott Pendlebury, there could be a special medallion coming his way over the next week.
“(Howey) could win our best and fairest,” Pendlebury said on Collingwood Media’s ‘Jock and Journo’ podcast.
“Between him, Steele Sidebottom and Taylor Adams, one of those three will win it, in my opinion.
“It will be pretty even. They’ve all had really good patches (this season), but Howey went to another level. He was the closest guy on our team to get an All Australian gig.

“He’s the guy, that I think will win it.”
If Howe is to be crowned Collingwood’s best and fairest on Friday October 6th, it will end a run of four consecutive Copeland wins from the Collingwood captain.
Speaking of Howe, Pendlebury said he was shocked that his highflying defender didn’t win the league’s Mark of the Year at Monday’s Brownlow Medal.
“We thought he was a certainty to win it.”
“Even Joe Daniher would admit that Howe’s mark was probably the best mark of the past 20 years, and potentially, the best mark of all time.”
Bad luck @howie0038 it's the best mark I've ever seen or been near
