Collingwood’s supporters have marked ANZAC Day’s contest against Essendon in 2012 as the match of the season.

In a poll conducted on the club’s official Facebook fan page, over 80 per cent of the Magpie Army voted the annual blockbuster as the ‘biggest game of season 2012’.

Next year’s match will be played on Wednesday 25 April at the MCG marked as a Collingwood home game.

The Grand Final replay against Geelong in round eight was next best receiving just over seven per cent of the total vote.

The opening round against Hawthorn was third most popular with six per cent while round three’s contest against Carlton rounded out the top four with three per cent.

Over 2,000 supporters lodged a vote in the poll.

The ANZAC Day contest will be built around the first encounter between Nathan Buckley and James Hird as senior coaches.

Since the tradition commenced in 1995, Collingwood holds a nine to seven advantage with one famous draw.

Last year’s attendance failed to crack the 90,000 mark (89,626) with a Magpie home game expected to flirt with a sold out MCG.

Collingwood plays two of last year’s finalists in the lead up to ANZAC Day while Essendon’s first test comes against Carlton in round four before a battle with the Magpies.
