Off the field Melbourne's sporting precinct was buzzing. There was basketball and rugby union to compete with, however with football fans starved of action since August, Collingwood's intra-club game at the Holden Centre was arguably the hottest ticket in town.

On the field the play was just as exciting. Youngsters by the names of Darcy Moore, Jordan De Goey and Corey Gault stood up, while the ever-reliable figures of Dane Swan, Scott Pendlebury and Steele Sidebottom impressed.
