New recruit Adam Treloar said in the aftermath of Collingwood’s loss to Carlton that the Magpies needed “tough love”.

Not content with losing a fifth game in 2016, the midfielder said the Collingwood flag was being flown by the club’s leaders, and the rest of the Magpies needed to step up.

“We don't have everyone playing their role and we need people out there doing that because we're not going to get the job done if we don't," Treloar told Channel Seven on Sunday.

"And you can't have the same people standing up and relying on the same people like 'Pendles' and 'Sidey' like that.

"It's just a bit of tough love (that's needed)."

Treloar’s comments were not only a call-out to those playing against the Blues, but also a nod to the impressive performances of two leaders of the club.

His recognition of Scott Pendlebury and Steele Sidebottom was echoed by the coaches at the conclusion of proceedings on Saturday afternoon.

Amidst a range of Carlton players, Nathan Buckley and his counterpart Brendon Bolton gave Pendlebury and Sidebottom votes in the AFL Coaches Association Champion Player of the Year.

Pendlebury received two votes a game which consisted of 34 disposals, seven tackles and four clearances.

Meanwhile, Sidebottom was given one vote after 29-touch game in which the midfielder used the ball at a season-high 82.8 per cent efficiency.

The Anzac Day medallist was dynamic in the first half, collecting 20 possessions before the main break.

The solitary vote means Sidebottom (12 votes) has now drawn level with Alex Fasolo as the Collingwood player with the most AFLCA votes in 2016.

Pendlebury sits behind the pair with 11 votes, while Treloar has eight to his name after seven games in the Black and White.
