Collingwood has put another win on the board claiming a seven-point victory over Carlton at Victoria Park on Sunday.

The Magpies’ controlled majority of the play but at times were troubled by poor skill execution failing to take clean marks and missing targets.

A credit to the Pies’ defensive efforts, Carlton was limited to a goalless first half.

But with Blue bagger, Charlotte Wilson booting her team's opening goal midway through the third, the Blues' kicked into gear and were on the comeback.

As the Pies struggled to bring the same level of physicality to the game, the Blues’ strong attacking efforts up forward saw them pile on another three goals in the second half.

But Sophie Alexander would seal the deal, claiming the final major of the day that would see the Pies go on to take the win, 5.5 (35) to 4.4 (28).

 

Collingwood defender, Sophie Casey was happy her team managed to pull through in the end but acknowledged there are a lot of lessons to take away from the game.

“We fought hard in that first quarter but (Carlton) were able to get over us and we lapsed a little bit towards the end,” Casey told collingwoodfc.com.au.

“For us, it’s about focusing on what we are doing at trainings and executing that into games and that includes clean possessions and good composure.”

Casey herself was challenged with a move into the midfield where she had a strong impact that saw her named as one of the Pies’ best.

Jaimee Lambert again showed off her quick skills claiming the Pies’ opening goal late in the first term.

Soon followed were back-to-back goals from Nicole Hales and Lambert that extended the Pies’ lead to 19-points entering the major break. 

In just her third game with the side, Gemma Laiogia continued to impress. She played an important role in the midfield, particularly in one passage of play having passed the ball to Steph Chiocci who went on to boot a goal early in the third.

Against her former side, Bri Davey provided a consistent effort around the contest before going down late in the fourth where she was assisted off the field and finished for the day.

The Pies will now rest ahead of next week’s bye and will return to Victoria Park to face Essendon on Saturday 17th August.
