Collingwood will be out to convert its improved form into positive results at Victoria Park on Saturday.
Three losses by seven points or less in their last four outings have left the Magpies reeling in 13th position on the VFL ladder, two games out of the top eight.
The Pies’ next challenge comes in the form of last year’s premier Box Hill.
The Hawks sit seventh on the ladder with 14 premiership points – but have won only once since round two.
Since their bye, Box Hill has drawn with Footscray and gone down to Richmond, so will be equally keen to notch another win.
Box Hill has been bolstered by the presence of four-time AFL premiership player and former captain Jarryd Roughead in their VFL ranks. Roughead has kicked six goals in his two VFL matches this season.
Defender David Mirra and midfielders Andrew Moore, Dylan Moore, and Luke Meadows have been among the Hawks’ most consistent performers this season.
For Collingwood, Max Lynch is expected to return after being sidelined by a concussion last week.
The Pies’ defensive depth is to be tested this weekend. Tyler Brown, Nathan Murphy and Flynn Appleby are all still unavailable due to their respective injuries, while Tom Langdon will have to be replaced in the AFL side.
Help might come from a surprising source though. Matthew Scharenberg’s recovery from an ACL tear is on track, and he could be available for selection as soon as this weekend.
Saturday’s game is scheduled for the traditional 2.00pm timeslot.
