Collingwood has added five new Magpies to the nest after the 2019 AFLW Draft on Tuesday.
Here’s all you need to know about our new draftees.
Pick 67 – Kaila Bentvelzen
As a leading forward for the Casey Demons throughout the 2018 VFLW season, Bentvelzen made the transition down back in 2019 where she had immediate impact. The 22-year-old has a great ability to read the play and can position herself well against experienced oppnonents. Having experience at both ends of the field, she offers great flexibility as a player.
Pick 74 – Jordan Membrey
Forward, Jordan Membrey returns to the Pies AFLW side having been delisted at the end of the 2019 season. Membrey ran out in the black and white for a total of three AFLW games in 2019 and managed to put two goals on the board. In her time away from the club, the 23-year-old has spent time with Hawthorn’s VFLW team where she was named best on ground on multiple occasions. She was also previously a member of the Brisbane Lions AFLW side back in 2017 where she took part in five games. Membrey provides great versatility on field with an ability to play a range of different roles.
Pick 82 – Alana Porter
As an Oakleigh Chargers recruit, Alana Porter has already spent time in Magpie territory. The 18-year-old ran out with the club’s VFLW side for seven games throughout the 2019 season, including the Pies’ premiership victory over the Western Bulldogs. The defender comes from an athletics background specialising in long jump. Her closing speed is impressive and she is pivotal in one-on-one contests.
Pick 89 – Ebony O’Dea
O’Dea arrives at the Holden Centre having been a member of the GWS Giants side in 2019 but she is yet to make her AFLW debut. The 21-year-old has been an important member of Norwood’s side over the past two years. She was a member of their 2017 SANFLW premiership team and was named amongst their best players in the 2018 SANFLW Grand Final. With the ability to play in the midfield as well as down back, O’Dea is known for her elite tackling and for being a tough on-baller. She is also a World Record holder in Unicycling for ‘Platform Long Jump’ and holds the Australian women’s records for ‘Platform High Jump’ and ‘Platform Long Jump
Pick 94 - Machaelia Roberts
The small forward has made history as the first female player from Groote Eylandt in East Arnhem Land to be drafted to an AFLW team. Roberts has collected 20 games and six goals for the Northern Territory Thunder and is known for being one of the most feared footballers in the NT. She is also a NTFL premiership player and four-time club best and fairest winner. The 25-year-old mum of three offers outstanding speed on field and offers great pressure around the ball.
