If you see the skipper of Collingwood walking along a heavily congested road, don't be alarmed.

As players enjoy some time off, Nick Maxwell is part of a group walking from Melbourne to Portland to raise money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

The fundraiser is titled ‘The Big Red Money Walk’ after a young boy wished for ‘one big red money’ (a $20 note) so he could go shopping.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation decided to take this idea and turn it into a fundraising event.

The group, including Maxwell, left on Saturday to travel through Geelong to Colac and then to Camperdown where they caught up with local fans who have dug deep to support the foundation.

The walking group will visit Warrnambool on Thursday to grant several wishes and to continue to raise money to an organisation which grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy.

This is the third consecutive year the event has been running with this year's walk finishing on Saturday.
