Former Hawthorn midfielder Alex Woodward will make his latest comeback when Collingwood's VFL team takes on Williamstown on Sunday.

Woodward, who played two AFL games during a luckless five-year stint with the Hawks, was the VFL Pies' key signing in the lead-up to their 2017 campaign.

However, he suffered his fourth serious knee injury in his third game in black and white and subsequently underwent his fourth knee reconstruction.

The 25-year-old, who won the 2014 Liston Trophy for the best and fairest player in the VFL, has been building his fitness while acting as Collingwood's AFL runner during the first half of this season.

The other key inclusion in the VFL Pies' team is Travis Varcoe, who is back in action after being sidelined by a hamstring injury since round 10.
