Inaugural Collingwood AFLW player Brittany Bonnici has signed a three-year contract extension with the Pies.
Collingwood’s 2023 Best and Fairest winner has penned a fresh deal that will see her remain a Magpie until at least the end of 2027.
Drafted to Collingwood as pick 27 in the 2016 AFL Women’s Draft, Bonnici quickly made a name for herself, gaining a Rising Star Nomination within her first year with the Pies.
Bonnici stepped into the leadership group with the Pies in 2018, and was elevated as a Vice-Captain in 2020 and has held the position ever since.
2023 was arguably the 27-year-old's best season taking out the club's Best and Fairest award and finishing 11th the League’s Best and Fairest after returning from an ACL injury.
Bonnici celebrated her 50th career game that same year, becoming the eighth Collingwood AFLW player to reach the milestone.
The 2021 All Australian received four best-on-ground performances for AFLW Season 8 in games against Fremantle, St Kilda, Brisbane and Carlton.
Bonnici’s signing joins Davey’s, Schleicher’s and Allen’s recent extension with the Club.
Bonnici is looking forward to being a part of the future of the Club’s AFLW program.
"I feel very fortunate to be signing on for another four seasons with Collingwood," Bonnici said.
"The past nine seasons have been a great journey so far, and I'm looking forward to creating more memories and developing my game further.
"There is a lot to be excited about with the future of this footy program, with new leadership under Sam Wright, and I am stoked to be a part of it."
Collingwood’s General Manager of Women’s Football Jess Burger said she is delighted with Bonnici’s re-commitment to the Club.
“We are extremely excited to share news of Brit’s recommitment. She has been an integral pillar of the Club since day one and embodies what it is to be a Collingwood AFLW person,” Burger said.
“Starting as a Collingwood foundation player, her development and growth over the past eight seasons with us is a testament to her drive to deliver elite standards in all aspects of her game.
“Brit continues to set the standard for those around her and has already taken her game to new heights over the off-season and we are excited to see that displayed alongside her teammates across the next four seasons.”
