Collingwood champion Dane Swan has expressed his disappointment at the alleged racial slur that was directed at Sydney’s Adam Goodes in the final quarter of last night’s match.

Speaking before the Collingwood Family Fun Run and Walk at the Botanical Gardens on Saturday morning, Swan was sympathetic towards his fellow Brownlow Medallist.

“I’m a pretty good mate of Adam’s and it’s disappointing to hear that something like that, especially in Indigenous Round and those boys showing how good they are,” said Swan.

“It’s extremely disappointing and all we can do is apologise to Adam and stress we’ve got no tolerance for any sort of racism at our footy club.

“Hopefully it can be resolved as quickly as possible because it’s something that should be stamped out of the game. It’s 2013.”

While much of the focus has been on the incident involving Goodes and a young Collingwood fan, the Magpies 47-point loss has not gone unnoticed.

Sydney beat Collingwood in every facet of the game and restricted the Magpies to four goals and five behinds at three quarter time – their lowest score at that stage of a game since round eight, 2009.

“Sydney is a very good side and they showed us up,” conceded Swan.

“We’ve got a little bit of work to do. We’re up and down like a yo-yo at present.

“We’ve got to find some continuity in our footy that we’re clearly lacking at the moment.

“We tried (to stop them) but they were too good. They pretty much beat us in all areas.

“The midfield was really hard. Their running between the 50 metre arcs was exceptional. They belted us pretty much from go-to-whoa.”

Collingwood has not won consecutive matches since the opening fortnight of the season and Swan was at a loss to explain what is behind his side’s recent inconsistency.

“We’re probably beating the sides we’re expected to beat but the sides up the top we’ve struggled against.

“It’s something we have to work out because we want to be a really good side and finish in the top four. Right now we’re not playing like that.”

The Magpies will have a chance to atone when they take on Brisbane at the Gabba next Friday night.
