Collingwood has turned to leg speed as it looks to record its second win of the home and away season against Adelaide at Etihad Stadium this Saturday.

Youngsters Tim Broomhead and Paul Seedsman will slot into a side that returned from the Gabba with a two-goal win over Brisbane safely in its keeping.

The pair replaces the injured Steele Sidebottom (thumb) and Jordan De Goey, who has been omitted.

Broomhead’s promotion comes off the back of a string of strong performances in the club’s recent VFL practice matches.

He kicked two goals against Richmond at Punt Road Oval a fortnight ago before turning in another encouraging display against the Casey Scorpions last Saturday.

The South Australian is no stranger to the Magpie Army who enjoyed watching the first eight games of his fledgling career during his debut season last year.

Broomhead averaged 12.8 disposals in 2014 but finished the year strongly, kicking three goals in the disastrous loss to Brisbane in round 21 and following it up with another two goals and 21 disposals against Greater Western Sydney.

He averaged 10.0 disposals in his two NAB Challenge outings earlier this year.

“I expect I’ll get a bit of a run through the midfield and up forward a bit,” Broomhead told CollingwoodTV.

“Hopefully I’ll get my hands on the footy as much as I can.

Seedsman, meanwhile, has not been sighted in the senior side all year after undergoing minor hip surgery in January.

The 23-year-old’s rehabilitation program saw him make a gradual return via the VFL, ramping up his efforts with a fine display against the Scorpions at Olympic Park last Saturday.

“I have a feeling I’ll be playing across the wing and half back,” Seedsman told CollingwoodTV.

“With Sidey (Steele Sidebottom) going down a spot opened up there for me so hopefully I take the opportunity this week and stay in there.”

Seedsman’s run and carry from the back half and through the wings leaves him poised to play a key role against an Adelaide side that helped itself to 35 scoring shots in last week’s 77-point win over North Melbourne.

The Crows enjoyed a bevy of inside 50s (63 to North’s 47), which, compared with Brisbane’s 49 last Saturday night, means the Magpie defence will need to be ready to absorb and repel at will across the four quarters.

Forwards Corey Gault and Patrick Karnezis will again be on stand by, as will Sam Dwyer, who was one of the VFL team’s best in the loss to the Scorpions.

Collingwood first met Adelaide at the Docklands Stadium in the 2003 Wizard Cup Grand Final. Despite a bright start, the Magpies let the game slip in the second quarter and ended the night 31-point short. Rhyce Shaw and Tarkyn Lockyer were named their side’s best in front of a crowd of 43,571.

The Magpies hold a 3-3 record in games against the Crows at the Docklands Stadium. In their most recent meeting at the venue, the Pies stormed home with an 11-goal final quarter to romp to a 43-point win. Remarkably, they had been 12-points adrift at the final break.
