It is one of the most famous moments in Collingwood history.

Not a mark, nor a goal.

But a tackle.

It was a tackle that didn't only save a certain goal, but it might well have saved a match.

And it wasn't any old match. It was the first Qualifying Final of 2002 - Collingwood's first since 11 September 1994.

It was a tackle that wrote Ben Johnson into Collingwood folklore.

The then-21-year-old had endured a torrid night against Port Adelaide dangerman Peter Burgoyne who had given the left-footed Magpie all sorts of grief in the first three quarters as the Pies fought grimly to hold onto their slender lead.

Read Glenn McFarlane's account of the famous Qualifying Final victory.

With the Power charging home in front of its parochial crowd, Burgoyne outmanoeuvred Johnson to mark Stuart Dew's long bomb to the goal square with 12 minutes to play.

Burgoyne went to play on…

…it's best left to Channel 10 commentator Stephen Quartermain to describe what transpired.

"…he'll go back for goal number four. He plays on, he's got it NO-HE'S-BEEN-RUN-DOWN! UNBELIEVEABLE! COLLINGWOOD OUT OF JAIL! MCKEE WILL CLEAR!"

Quatermain went on to surmise: "That's the stuff that wins you matches".

Co-commentator and Collingwood premiership player Michael Christian analysed Johnson's tackle during the next break in play:

"Now let's have a look at this. Peter Burgoyne has taken the mark clearly, is paid the mark, and decides to play on AND BEN JOHNSON, what a SUPERB tackle. That could be telling at the end of the game".

And telling it was.

Collingwood held on to win by 13-points and on a night several Magpies were hailed as heroes, Johnson earned himself a place in the hearts of all who bleed black and white.

He has since gone on to play 229 games and play in the 2010 premiership team.

This week marks 10 years since Johnson's game saving tackle.

You never know. History may repeat on Friday night against the Hawks.
