Flowers lay at the foot of the Lou Richards statue at the Holden Centre on Tuesday morning, a day after the passing of the great man it represents.

A few hundred metres away, the 1953 Premiership cup stood glistening on an overcast May morning. It was the trophy Richards captained the Magpies to winning in his 13th year as a Collingwood player.

Fans looked on and players stopped for a look as they hit the training track for the 10.30am session in the wet.

Lou looked on. Not only from the Holden Centre video board beaming a tribute slide over the oval, but maybe from a higher place as well.

Vale Lou Richards. A fitting obituary.

A fitting tribute to a man who symbolised everything football to so many.

""He left an imprint on anyone he met... he lived a full life + that's something to celebrate," - coach Nathan Buckley.
