This week we play for arguably the biggest honour in the AFL. It’s going to be huge.

In Sydney, our manic pressure got us over the line against the Swans. We dug in, tackled hard and left those so called Grand Finalist’s wondering what hit them.

With our undefeated run underway, the tendency will continue against the Saints.

Now, the previously mentioned massive honour up for grabs this Sunday at Etihad Stadium. The prestigious ‘Shane WakelinBowl’ is apparently what coined the NFL naming their biggest award the SuperBowl. This Sunday we look to win it back after the boys from Moorabbin/Seaford luckily beat us 12 months ago.

We’ve had some memorable battles with the Saints over the years. Many have tried, but who could forget the disgusting canary yellow jumper they wore against us in 2003? We kicked 8.4 to 0.6 in the first quarter before we put the cue in the rack and cruised to a standard ten-goal win, with club champion Matty Lokan jagging two goals from his 18 touches. |



And then there’s the big one… the 2010 Grand Final.

Although the 2010 Grand Final Norm Smith Medal was awarded to our (now) skipper, Scott Pendlebury, I still believe that it should have been awarded to Stephen Milne.

Without his gutsy six touches and courageous decision to let the ball bounce through for a point the week before, our 15th premiership cup would be sitting right next to their dusty (and I assume) cobweb-filled trophy cabinet.

I truly believe Milne was our best player in those games and we’ve never properly thanked him for it.

After polling (I assume) three votes and kicking four goal-of-the-millennium contenders last week, expect much the same this Sunday, but don’t expect him to walk off the field with the Allan Davis Medal. (Davis played 173 games for St Kilda, once ate a Violet Crumble during game play and peaked in 1980 when he played three games for the mighty Pies).

My prediction is that honor will go to Will Hoskin-Elliott, fresh off kicking the match winner last week. Expect his pace to exploit the St. Kilda backline.

Trust me, this will be a nice little warm up before ANZAC day. A 57-point-win over the one-cup wonders, with big, bad, bustling Brayden Maynard racking up 26-possessions and eight tackles.

Get loud this Sunday… Up the ‘Woods.
