Collingwood has had a successful night at the 2023 Brownlow Medal with young star Nick Daicos finishing third.

The 20-year-old was tipped as one of the favourites going into the evening and polled strongly, reaching 28 votes before getting injured in Round 21.

He was in the lead at that stage by two votes ahead of Melbourne’s Christian Petracca but wasn’t able to hold on as Brisbane’s Lachie Neale (31 votes) took over to claim his second medal.

Western Bulldogs captain Marcus Bontempelli finished second with 29 votes.

Daicos polled three votes on seven separate occasions including four in a row between Rounds 15 and 18.

He also picked up three votes in consecutive games in Gather Round against Adelaide and on ANZAC Day against Essendon.

The midfielder averaged 31.2 disposals and went at more than 75 per cent disposal efficiency in his second season, while he also averaged close to a goal per game with 18 majors from his 20 matches.

The Pies also topped the club count with 93 votes across all players, narrowly edging out Grand Final opponents Brisbane by one vote.

Perennial vote-getter Tom Mitchell was the second highest poller for the Pies with 12.

He secured maximum votes in Rounds seven, 10 and 24, as well as two on King’s Birthday against Melbourne.

Jordan De Goey finished on eight votes after standout performances against Geelong in Round One and North Melbourne in Round 11.

Josh Daicos’ consistent season was rewarded with eight votes as well including a three-vote effort when he collected a career-high 38 disposals against Geelong in Round 22.

Both Isaac Quaynor and Nathan Murphy secured their first career votes for the night, with the latter’s coming in Round Three against Richmond.

The milestones kept flowing as Steele Sidebottom raised the bat for his 100th career vote in Round six, while Scott Pendlebury became the sixth player of all time to poll in 100 separate games.

Collingwood’s attention now solely turns to this Saturday when they take on Brisbane in the 2023 AFL Grand Final.
