Collingwood’s Head of High Performance Jarrod Wade has provided an Injury Update ahead of the 2023 Toyota AFL Grand Final against Brisbane.
Midfielder Taylor Adams will be assessed this week following a hamstring injury sustained during match simulation ahead of the Preliminary Final.
“He’s up to about 85 to 90 percent running speed, so clocking in at a pretty good speed and we know now that the progressions from 90 to 100 percent have got to occur before game day,” said Wade.
“You’ll see him in some training early in the week and we’ll be giving him every chance towards the end of the week to make sure we clear that speed.
“We’re going to tick every box with him before the game, so that if he is fit and available to play that we know he is going to be good to go and not take any risk from that point of view.
“We’re not saving anything in the tank from a training point of view, we’re going to make sure we clear him during the week, at the moment he’s progressing really well, we’re just going to have to wait and see where that lands come Thursday’s main training session.
After kicking two crucial goals in Collingwood’s Preliminary Final victory, Daniel McStay will miss the Grand Final through a medial ligament injury to his knee.
“It’s medial ligament injury somewhere between that grade two and grade three mark, similar to Steele Sidebottom earlier in the year and Darcy Cameron,” said Wade.
“His return timeframe is around that six-to-eight-week mark, obviously that puts us into the off-season. It won’t affect his off-season running at all, he’ll be able to get to running in about a month’s time and be able to complete a really good off-season and we don’t foresee any issues leading into the pre-season.
“It won’t require any surgery, it’s a standard process which we’ve done before.”
Ash Johnson has started running after breaking his arm during the VFL Elimination Final. The forward is completing a training program in preparation for pre-season.
Will Kelly is back to running and weights following surgery to his wrist, as he preps himself for training programs across the off-season and 2024 pre-season.
