Krakouer on the way back
Injured Collingwood forward Andrew Krakouer says he has dealt with issues that saw him granted a leave of absence
Krakouer, who is recovering from a knee reconstruction, said he had put the issues of the past month behind him and was now concentrating on making a return to football.
"I was just probably a little bit run down I think," Krakouer told Channel Nine's The Footy Show on Thursday night.
"Probably the last couple of years have been pretty big for me and I haven't really had too much time to sit down and relax.
"Over my pre-season break … it went quite quickly and I still thought I needed a little bit more time, I had a few little things going on off-field as well that I needed to take care of.
"The club and I came to an agreement that I just needed to take a few weeks off to handle those.
"It was reported that I was going to take a month off - but luckily it only took me about a week or so to handle things and I was back into training and played a game within a week or a couple of weeks of leaving.
"There were just a few small issues there, but yeah they're all taken care of."
Krakouer also revealed he still had hopes of returning to the field this season.
"Oh yeah, absolutely, I'd love to play again this year," Krakouer said.
"But at the moment it's out of my control.
"The only thing I can control is my attitude towards my training and how I go about it, so I'll do that and hopefully give myself the best opportunity I can to try to make a comeback."
Krakouer said he never really considered undertaking LARS surgery on his injured knee.
"We thought that LARS was going to be a quick-fix and we didn't want a quick-fix so the club, my manager and I spoke about it and we thought the traditional knee reconstruction was the best way to go," he said.
When asked about a possible contract extension, Krakouer said he was keen to stay a Magpie.
"Oh absolutely [I want to stay at Collingwood]," Krakouer said.
"Collingwood has been great, I've only spent a year here so hopefully … I'll just do everything I can with my rehab and see how we go, my manager and the club will speak about that and handle that in due time."
